Remarkable heritage!
Teillan Castle , a listed Historic Monument, is located 3 kilometers south of the village of Aimargues. In the 12th century, it was sold to the Abbey of Psalmody.
Thanks to a decree of 1635, the owners of the castle were authorized to gather Roman remains in the magnificent park. The park is also listed as a Historic Monument . Landscaped and romantic, it was composed in the 19th century around exceptional Roman steles and boundary stones. You can admire beautiful specimens of trees: gingko biloba, sequoia and photinia.
Also accessible to visitors are three remarkable buildings: the waterwheel, the 16th-century dovecote, and the chapter house in the main building of the castle. The dovecote, with its bishop's miter vault, was made of cut stone around 1600 with an interior wooden revolving ladder. The vaulted room on the ground floor served as a prison for the seigneury. The wheel well or waterwheel, connected to the Vidourle by an underground aqueduct, dates from 1609. Its superstructure was remodeled during the Restoration to create a vast basin fed by a stone overflow basin, in place of the old wooden trough. The mechanism was constantly maintained until around 1920, as it watered the vegetable garden.
