The Way of Arles or Via Tolosana
The Petite Camargue has the characteristic of being crossed by the three most important European pilgrimage routes, the one going to Rome, called " camin roumieu " then the camin francigène after Arles, the one going to Jerusalem by sea which passes through Saint-Gilles then Aigues-Mortes, and the one going to Santiago de Compostela , called the Tolosane Way at the time of the County of Toulouse then the Arles Way after the arrival of Louis IX in the bay of Aigues-Mortes. The three are connected to the Regordane Way which arrived from the Massif Central to Saint-Gilles.
Vauvert, historic pilgrimage site
Vauvert is a step on the road to Santiago de Compostela, the road to Arles. This is the GR 653 long-distance hiking trail. The route to Santiago de Compostela, which has had centuries of pilgrimage, has become a place of adventure. Hikers and visitors discover an inexhaustible trail of discovery along the trail. The French Agency for the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela
The Tourist Office is a member of the Agence Française des Chemins de Compostelle (AFCC).
The AFCC is a professional association, one of whose aims is to pass on the cultural heritage of the roads to Santiago de Compostela.
It can help you prepare your pilgrimage and give you the right information and recommendations.
